Is there a procedure or method by which I can determine if my Polk sub is set to produce the most dynamic sound?

    You'll need the following:

    1. Radio Shack SPL meter
    2. Test tones

I'll let the guru's fill in the blanks....now go shopping.

If I have access to a Sound and Vision tune up disc and a sound level meter, I should be able to muddle my way through it right?

You have all the tools you need attached to your head.

Move it around, play some familiar tunes, and start twistin' knobs.

    Cheers,

APC--the best thing to do is post a new thread entitled "Dr. Spec, help." The good doctor is THE resource for subwoofer setup. Great guy ready to share his knowledge/experience with you.

Or he could use the 'search' feature to save Doc from typing the same thing, for the 500th time.

I said my thank you earlier. I did not want to burden the forum with another iteration of info that is available in an archive somewhere. My original intent was to get a little direction to the knowledge base I was unable to find myself. Perhaps if an administrator reads this thread - they will erase it with my appreciation.

    Welcome to the forum,
There is no archive, you can use the search feature and try keywords. There is plenty of useful info here and if you still dont understand something, someone will help you out.

These guys on the Polk Forum (steveinaz, gatemplin, polkmaniac....) really helped me tune my SVS...and then there's Dr.Spec, THE resident Internet SUB EXPERT...

Thanks for the shout-out, but I'm still green when it comes to subwoofers...

Yeah, and while we're at it, how about just locking all the threads and change the name from Polk Audio Forum to Polk Audio Database.

I can borrow a digital meter from a friend or buy an analog from the Shack. Is there an advantage to either from a novice standpoint? What are yor preferences and why? I will be using the S&V Home Theater Tune-Up disc, which demonstates the use of Radio Shack's analog meter.

I would go ahead and buy one (maybe used?). If you ever decide to rearrange, move, get a different sub or speakers you'll need to re-calibrate. I've got the digital model, very easy to use.
