Polk R700 Center Speaker

I just bought some R700 and want to have a decent tonal match with a center channel but don’t want to pay so much for R400. Is there ANY alternative that will give me good results (for music primarily) maintaining some degree of tonal match at around $300?

Thanks

There is the R300 at $449 when not on sale. The R400 is the better match with the R700s whether it's for home theater or music because it uses the same size midrange drivers and the same tweeter.

If the R700s are properly set up they shouldn't need a center speaker for music listening unless most of the music listening is in surround format.

Why/when will you be using the center channel for music? Unless you have a large collection of SACDs, DVD-As, and Concert discs in 5.1, music is best in a really good two-channel rig. If you have a good amp and feed them a good source, those r700s should sound wonderful on their own...
