HSU VTF-2 Mk I vs Energy ES-12XL Sub
Which one?
Noting that I would listen to them if I could, but I cant. They'e in another state. But this will be my last piece to complete my system.
Oh ... one other thing. The HSU sub costs AU$750, and the Energy sub AU$500. So I will have to sacrifice a little more on price if I were to get the HSU sub.

Haven't heard the Energy sub, but I own a Hsu sub and there's probably no better sub out there for the price. If you get the Hsu, you can be assured that you're getting the best. If you get the Energy, you may experience buyer's remorse.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I know what you are going through I have the 202 and Im not happy with it, the velodyne cht10 went on sale I wanted to buy it just to lose the 202 . My wife said wait and get the one you really want instead of sepnding cash now only to have to spend more down the line....the outcome :
waiting and looks like the HSU will come in the future (not sure when) so you may be better off waiting a tadd and buy one you will enjoy for years to come -

Soupbone, Polk member, owned the pimp daddy of Energy subwoofers....he may drop some comments about that manufacturer.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I will 'pm' soupbone.
Its hard to make a final judgement when I am purely relying on instinct. Ideally I would love the STF-3.
Maybe I should hold off? Who knows. Soupbone maybe able to solve my dilemma.Fronts: Polk RTi6

I have the Hsu STF-2 (VTF-2 in max extension setting) and it is a very nice sub for the money ($400). With room gain I can get down to about 25 - 26 hz in my home office.
If you want to eliminate any second guessing, I'd go with the STF-3 for the couple of hundred more. The one weakness with the STF-2 is that it kind of "farts" in demanding HT DVD scenes like in "Underworld". This has also been documented by other Hsu owners over at the Hsu forum. Overall, still probably the best sub you can get for the money though, and the "farting" only happens rarely but you'll know it when it happens.
Can't comment on the Energy. Never heard it go.
