L100 vs R200 for Yamaha A-S801?

Regardless of cost, which would have better sound paired with a Yamaha A-S801? Polk Legend 100 or Polk Reserve 200? Is a subwoofer recommended for either setup? If yes, what subwoofer pairs well with this? Thank you!

The L100 will need a sub. I haven't heard the R200, but have listened to the L200. Depending on your tastes you may get away without a sub with the L200 and expect the same would apply to the R200. That said, just about every bookshelf speaker rig will benefit from a sub. I recommend the Velodyne DD+ subs.

I am not unhappy listening to R200s sans subwoofer, FWIW.
My taste and expectation in bass reproduction may not be all that mainstream, though (and, again, FWIW).
The R200s have a very acceptably "full" sound to my ears & taste, and they'll fill a 25 x 25 foot space quite nicely when asked to do so.
