Those LED lights are way too bright and really bad for your eyes. In fact, LED lights are bad for your eyes, period.

    Torches are nice.
A little extra warmth in the winter, too.
    :|

I actually have a mix of bright white and a couple of much warmer lamps, which we also use in the mudroom. I'm funny that way.

OK, I'm funny in lotsa ways. Work with me, here!

I've seen studies on both sides but I wouldn't be shocked if LEDs are genuinely destroying our eyes. We're screwed anyhow. Your house, your TV, your phone screen, your Christmas lights? All LEDs.

Isn't it kinda funny how as humans we know things in the past were invented that immediately were widely adopted only to find it was extremely harmful (lead and asbestos to name two) years later, and yet we keep doing that same thing time after time?

I used to put up Christmas lights when I was married. I have been divorced for 13 years and I couldn't be happier if I won one of those Powderball thingamajigs. B)

My phone is explicitly for communication, internet (research/knowledge), and camera. I have social media but it's for communicating with people, and I don't use it for games or anything like that. Mainly the camera honestly, that's what I base my next phone on.

Definitely would like to see what you described happen to people who text and drive.

I bought 20 hanging 4 foot fluorescent lights without bulbs for my garage. I hung them all, ran a circuit and dropped outlets near all of them to plug them in.

Instead of fluorescent bulbs, I used T8 style LED replacement bulbs in daylight. I did this like 6 years ago now and it was WAY cheaper then. I think I spent about $750 on all the light fixtures and bulbs I needed. Got a bunch of it on sale too. The most expensive part was the 200 ft roll of Romex 14/2 The entire setup runs about 600 watts total so I'm using less than half of the 15 amp circuit capacity. The garage is so bright and there's so many lights that barely anything can cast a shadow.

I used daylight bulbs in the garage because, well, they were the brightest bulbs I could get and they provide a more natural light color which is helpful when I'm trying to determine is that fluid is old motor oil or burned transmission fluid or dirty gear oil.

I hate daylight level lights anywhere else. I love them in the garage!

For most any type of light the CRI (color rendering Index) is an important factor. The lower the CRI the more " off " the color appears. For the most part anything 90 and above is good. I've seen daylight and warm white or "natural light" fluorescents and LED's that have a CRI in the mid to upper 70's and low 80's. The other part is when you start to get above 5000k you will have more blue cast to the light. My 6500k and 8000k fluorescent tubes I use for my plants are 91 (6500k) and 88 (8000k) and you can sure see a difference when you put the same color under each compared to a 5000k 94 CRI tube. The 5000k is supposed to mimic the sunlight at noon. It's also one of the reasons they use high kelvin lighting to treat SAD, seasonal affected disorder.

I agree with John in that I like bright daylight in my garage, I also use them in my house as well. Personally I despise the yellow warm white glow anymore.

I thought the warmer lights emitted less blue light?

EDIT: Higher Kelvin is cooler tone... oops. Nevermind

2 dual 8' fluorescents in my garage. I have no idea what the kelvin number is or if they're cool white or daylight. All I know is I can see fine when working on projects except when I drop something. Then I can count on it being very dark wherever that piece lands.

I've been wanting to get a set of those for some time, but my current garage was built with two 4' twin bulb fluorescent fixtures and if I'm not mistaken, there are no junction boxes to install a standard bulb outlet. The lighting sucks and I struggle to work on stuff out there without a headlamp. I need to take the time and install some boxes to the rafters and cut holes in the drywall ceiling to install standard fixtures.

I have an internet connection to access the internet . . . when I am not driving . . . or when I am not crossing the street . . . or to have something to do because I don't take 80 pictures a day of myself. Cry about it some more.

Hey guys, thanks for all the quick feedback - I got lost in the hardware store for a while, browsing unsupervised, remembering all the other stuff I needed/wanted to do. I only went for charcoal originally...

I ended up going with a light similar to what @gudnoyez linked. Works great, and it's low profile too. This is handy for, you know, those times I'm swinging 2x4s around in there, not paying attention and piñata'ing the bulb.
