Anyone have a Single-layer SACD Willing to Part With?

I bought a Sony DVP-S9000ES, but I need to calibrate it to get it to play SACDs.

Per a Youtube video I found, it is recommended to use a single-layer SACD. I’ve tried all of my Hybrid SACDs to no avail.

There are tons on 3bay (most aren't very cheep). Would it say single-layer on the case?

Most on the slipcase would say plays on SACD players only.
I at one time had the service manual for the 9000, they are all ticking time bombs because of the laser. I do not how many on the Sony dvd players I bought to rip the laser transport out of, I lost count. But that C13 error code I know well. I do not know how much you paid for the player but I do know the frustration of constantly calibrating and replacing the laser transport well. They all end up on the floor as a door stop.

That’s a shame. It’s a very nice sounding/looking player.

I paid $50. I don’t seem to have an error code, but I don’t have the RMT-D122A remote with the CD/SACD button.

I’ve got the RMT-D111A remote which will let you run diagnostic. If you put in a single-layer SACD, it’s supposed to calibrate to automatically recognize the SACD layer.

About 4 minutes into this video this guy demonstrates how to calibrate with the remote I have.

Yeah, might try Discogs too, but I wanted to check this forum first. Good group of people on this forum.

Yes they were nice players, no argument from me. I really like all the Sony ES disc stuff, with the exception of that model. I went through 3 of them so for myself it wasn't a one and done. I kept thinking I'd get a good one that would last, I never did.

I had one of those a long time ago so my memory of it may be off, but I think mine had no problem playing the original single layer SACDs but wouldn't switch properly between layers to play the SACD layer on hybrid discs. It was a mechanical problem. Not sure what the guy in the video is trying to prove but that player was definitely built with excellent parts except for the drive mechanism. I kept mine to play DVDs and CDs for a little while but moved on to better things. It was excellent at what it could do and I had a different SACD player that worked.

I went ahead and got a single layer disc from Discogs. Thanks for the replies.

Will report back whether the calibration works for single layer and hybrid discs.
