Bottle Fest (Bottlehead)

Not sure where this will go…

I might put together a 1 day get together at my house in Rockford, IL

Tube “stuff” featuring Bottlehead gear.

Not sure when - probably next year in the spring so we stay away from winter weather.

If there’s enough interest I’ll get ahold of Doc at Bottlehead and see if he would ship something that I don’t have.

Or we build a Crack…?

Chime in if you’d be interested.

It's always fun times at Aarons Audio Emporium. :) I'd be interested in hearing if an Eros 2 really sounds that much better than our Eros with upgrades. I have no interest in spending $825 to find out though...

I was really intrigued by Aaron’s phono preamp that day I tagged along with Ivan.

Could you really build one of those in a few hours (with people watching you)?!

The Eros punches way past its price point. Two EF86 microphone tubes make up the first gain stage. One 6DJ8/6922/7308 is second gain/output. A 12BH7 tube is used for the regulator. A passive RIAA equalization is positioned between gain stages. 50dB gain. The Eros 2 is larger and easier to build. There is also space for step up transformers, if desired.

It sounds good with supplied parts/tubes. We upgraded some caps and the base. The Walnut base on mine was sourced from Aaron's dads tree farm. I used two Telefunken EF86, around $100 a tube at the time (2015) and an Amperex 7308. I have a LOMC so I use an SUT before phono pre. I also adjusted the coupling cap values for a better corner frequency match with my pre amp.

Yes. We could even do it in less time - if we didn't have to guarantee it to function. :D

The Eros v1 was a lot of point to point wiring and they’ve simplified it on a board now. I can’t imagine getting a v1 done in under 12 hours!

Not all of this is stock but you get the idea…
