4 FXI3's for 7.1

Hi all,

Fairly new to home theater. I upgraded my Sony de935 A/V receiver to an Onkyo 801 with 7.1. I purchased 4 FXI3's for my sides and rears. Just wondering if I made a good choice with going with 4 of them or using 2 bookshelves either on the side or rears in place of 2 FXI's.

I haven't installed any rear/side speakers yet because I moved to another house with a much larger family room (27X17) and need to have an electrical contractor run conduit down through the floor, accross the ceiling of the garage and up through the rear side of the room where the 4 speakers would go.

I have RTI8's and CSI3 for front and center with a Velodyne sub

Anyone here have any experience with such a setup?

Thanks

Every setup I've ever seen with 7.1 (magazines, internet ect....) have direct radiating (i.e. bookshelf) speakers in the rear if you are using bi/dipole surrounds on the sides.

Not really sure why you're not supposed to use 4 bi/dipoles:confused:

I guess you could always try them out. If it sounds O.K. to you, then who cares what magazines and such say, right?

Have a look at the system showcase here at Club Polk. There are a couple 7.1 setups. See what they're doing. If memory serves, most are using bookshelves in the rear, with either bookshelves or bi/dipoles on the sides.

    gmorris,
Thanks for the reply. I mistakenly post on this forum, so I reposted on the speaker forum.

yes, I also seen books on the rears and bi/di's on the sides. That was my concern. As soon as I set them up, about a week to 10 days, I will post with my results.
