PATH AUDIO RESISTORS ground wire to use or not?

Do I have to use this ground wire or can I just cut it off? I have never heard of grounding the case of a resistor. It complicates an already complicated project. If it is recommended to ground them then WHERE should I connect them exactly. I am leaning towards not grounding them. Any advise?

    IIRC, Path says you don't have to use it.
