Polk Monitor XT12 Random distortion sound.

Hi guys. I purchased the Polk Monitor XT12 subwoofer just over a year a go, and recently every so often a random booming sound or rumble would happen. It's like a distortion sound. Only happens for a second and stops. It makes me jump sometimes when it happens because you don't expect it lol. It's random, happens when listening to music or play video games. I don't know if it's a problem with the sub or something else causing it. It's connected to a Denon x3800h. Anyone else experience anything like this? Not sure where to start to find out what's causing it.

    Hello,
Welcome! A first step would be to determine where the source of the distortion is. Do you have another device to connect it to? Such as a CD/DVD player or a cassette deck any high level audio source?

Hi and thanks for reply. Only thing connected to the sub is the cable in the back going to the receiver. I have the PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC connected to the receiver. These devices are not on all the time. It really doesn't matter which device I use at the time. It will happen with any device I use. It's so random when it happens. It could be a few minutes, hours or nothing for over a day.

The way to test the subwoofer is to disconnect the cable from the receiver to the subwoofer and turn the sub's volume down. Then connect one of your other devices, say the PC, to the subwoofer and turn the sub's volume up a small amount. Then begin playing something (you'll just hear bass sounds), maybe a YouTube video and see if you hear the sporadic distortion. If not then the problem is not the subwoofer.
