The new FUGLY vehicle...

Well after 13 years of driving Minivans, the wife decided she needed something different. Well she certainly did that. The final choice was between a Volvo S40 (the early 2004 model - not the new 2004.5) and this. It is one of those vehicles that you either love or hate. She absolutely loves it, (after driving it on a whim - she actually went in to drive an Accord and a CRV), one daughter loves it, the other hates it. It is sort of growing on me because of a lot of the cool stuff it has. Plus I'm a big guy (6' 5") and this thing has tons of room. It certainly gets comments.

Put me on the boat that hates it.

Sorry, I am sure it is nice - but errr...

    Don't like the look.

Dosn't it come with a built in sound system, but no cd player or what?

Brandy is a die-hard Volvo enthusiast, so there would be no other choice here (for her). I like that ****, looks cool, and if it lives up to the Honda name (no reason it shouldn't), it will provide years of service and safety.

    Congrats on the new G-ride!

Comes with a 7 speaker system with subwoofer W/ a CD player and a MP3 jack.

This thing is loaded. Built on the CRV drivetrain with the 4 cylinder V-TEC engine that is also in the 4 cyl. Accords. All wheel drive, 4 wheel disc brakes w/ABS, front and side airbags, alloy wheels, all power (AT, PW, Power Locks, Keyless entry, cruise, etc...), something like 65 seat combinations, sun roof over the rear passengers. Lots of storage, tie downs and such. I thought it was ugly too at first...but it kind of grows on you. Got if for $20K (about $250 under "INVOICE") so it was a pretty good deal.

Like I said...it is the wife's...so I won't get to drive it much. However, I may get to bring it to the ECPG at Troy's in Oct.

When it first came out I hated it too, but now I really like the styling. I like the colour too. Congrats, it is very versatile and it has a good engine.

Josh - I have wondered how easy it would be to replace the plastica as that was always my biggest complaint about it's looks. That one looks pretty good.

Many people have done it. I would imagine it wouldn't be too expensive. Probably under $1500.

I never knew that paint was an option at Honda.
This car should be called the Honda "elephant" (not element). Remember that movie called "Elephant Man". This is the automotive equivalent.

I went to the webpage on the picture and it appears that the plastic pannels are painted with paint made for bumpers. Very cool. It might be worth looking into if we tire of the plastic look.

Yea, it's paint. The same thing that is done with the Escalade version of the Avalanche.

If you ever want cheap factory parts, to pick up what you didn't get from the dealer, go to www.hparts.com or www.ahmotor.com

I have a couple of cell phone kiosks at the mall and some tanning beds;)

Actually I spend my money wisely. I'm a car nut from way back...but the trick is to make sure that you buy what you like and keep them for a while. The van this replaces is a 97 Voyager Rallye with 140,000 miles. Still looks and runs great. It's been paid off for 3 years and I sold it for $4,000. I put 175,000 miles on my Mustang before I bought a new car.

I've got buddies and co-workers that think nothing of going out and buying a $40K SUV, financing it over 72 months and trading it in two years. They just can't figure out where their money goes. I owe on my house and this car...that's it. Vacations always come out of bonuses and I've had a couple of pretty good years. I haven't paid any credit card interest in 20 years. I make decent money so I can afford some stuff from time to time since I don't have any debt to speak of. HOWEVER two teenage daughters ages 16 and 19 (one in college) use up a LARGE amount of disposable income. In about 5-6 years I'll be able to buy a Porsche 911 Turbo and the wife a Mercedes SL500 on the savings from insurance , makeup and clothes alone.

The body paint to match makes a HUGE difference in the digestibility of those things on my eyes.

They're pretty versitile in terms of functionality, but I can't imagine that a rolling block works too well from a fuel efficient standpoint....

New cars are always fun though.....

It's not too bad. EPA estimates are 22/26. A lot better than most SUVs.
