SDA SRS 2.3 interconnect Cable Configuration

Before you read this, I answered my own question by referencing the SDA Handbook: "Fourth generation SDA's used the pin/blade interconnect cable. The pin carried a signal while the blade did not." But I had an interesting journey :D . Read on if you like.

The Interconnect cable I got with my recent SRS 2.3 acquisition had electrical tape wrapped around a section so I decided to clean that up. I discovered that jacket was damaged and at least one wire's insulation as well. Perhaps this was caused by a chewing pup or kitten. So I decided to cut that section out (less than 5-inches) and solder the wires together. Shrink wrap will isolate the two solder joints, and then I'll wrap the jacket. After I soldered the two connections I decided to test with my ohm meter. I could only get continuity on the round pin and not the flat blade. I desoldered the repair and tested from the stripped wire to each connector. I was surprised to see that no continuity on the flat blade with either the black or white wire. There was continuity for both wires on the round pin. I tested tested across both wires, on both pieces and got a short between black and white. Is there only one leg to this? The schematic seems to indicate otherwise. The connectors are moulded so I can't imagine it could have been tampered with. jxyuftx4mnqw.jpg
