Low subwoofer output

I've completed setup of my new MagniFi Mini AX system and it looks like everything is connected properly. However, I'm getting VERY low output from the subwoofer from a variety of content. I've tried maximizing the Bass setting, but it doesn't help. Is there anything I can do to improve it? The system isn't really worth keeping unless I can, since the subwoofer is doing nothing to enhance the sound experience.

    Hello,
Is the subwoofer working producing sound but you want it to play louder? Or, is there no sound at all? Can you hear the sub getting louder as you increase the bass control?
  • The subwoofer is producing sound, but at a very low level. There is no perceptible change when the bass level is increased to 4. I hear no 'enhancement' of the overall sound experience from the subwoofer.

Okay, let me refer this to a friend at Polk.
  • Great. Thank you! I did spend a fair amount of time on the phone yesterday with Chris at Polk support. He was very professional, and tried hard, but was unable to help me boost the subwoofer volume. As I said, if I can't improve it, I'm going to return the system. There is just not enough incremental improvement over the TV's regular audio to make it worthwhile.

And this is with good quality program material? Are you able to place it near a wall or corner?
  • It is, Yes. I tried it with input from streaming movies, YouTube videos and an external music source. I did place it near a wall to get some good reflection, but there is almost nothing to reflect. I need to put my ear close to the speaker on the bottom to hear anything at all.

Polk feels a replacement is in order. Please send your name, address, telephone number and the serial number from the soundbar to: Kim.Jasper@masimo.com and he will take care of it. Thanks for your patience.
  • Thanks for your help!

I'd say PP2's comment is spot on. I had the Polk customer service walk me through the set up yesterday and while I can discern bass, it's not noticeable. When turning it up to #4 level, there is very little, if any, difference. The SW sits on the side of my HT wood furniture console (approx 7.5 ft tall, 5 ft wide), next to the wall to maximize the bass.
  • I'll forward this to a friend at Polk, but I might not hear back until Tuesday.
  • I heard from my friend this morning and he recommends contacting Polk's CS (1-800-377-7655) and if you are under the warranty they will replace your unit.

I would also keep in mind , if your streaming movies they may not all be in a DD audio format so the subwoofer won't pickup a designated signal. Youtube or whatever other service you have, are you paying for the standard service ? You have to opt for the HD service in most cases to get the better audio.

Specs for that system are hard to come by. I was able to find the sub driver measures 5x7 inches. That's really small for a subwoofer. I also found one place that noted, frequency response 28Hz. That's all...lol

That sub is not going to hit down to 28Hz. In fact, that's not a sub, but a low frequency driver and I doubt it is putting out much of anything below 50Hz.

F1 Nut - uggh, that's disappointing to hear but matches what I'm experiencing. The problem is I don't know how the SW should sound. Meaning does it only put out low volume bass or is there something wrong with the unit. If you read the reviews, almost all reviewers say the bass is very good. I don't hear that (pardon the pun).

One last complicating factor: I have an older Samsung TV (2015) that only produces PCM and DTS Neo 2.5 audio (I know, ancient). Should this have a bearing on the bass I'm getting?

I suggest you do as SeleniumFalcon stated, call Polk CS and if under warranty they will replace it.
