In this case, ignorance is bliss (for me anyway).

Sounds like this was an epic fail.

At this point, I only have serious interest in CD/vinyl. Streaming is cool as a convenience.

Will probably go with Qobuz if I ever pay for a streaming service. Don’t care for Tidal.

MQA was much ado about nothing really. It never really penetrated the market to any meaningful extent because consumers weren't interested in it.

To me SACD and Vinyl are the superior audiophile formats. It would be nice if more digital downloads were in DSD format to separate them from the high resolution FLAC or PCM forms that can be obtained through streaming or downloads. Qobuz seems to be the best option for streaming sound quality.

I dig SACD also; unfortunately the format war with DVD-A and the divide between artists and labels between the two formats ruined what could have (should have?) been the standard for digital playback.

IMO, CD still has the edge over SACD in the digital category due to providing the most genre/artist coverage while still maintaining high-quality playback capability.

It doesn’t help that there are fewer and fewer quality SACD players and cost of entry is now higher than it used to be, both for the players and the discs themselves.

    No hijack…

Always prefer dvd-a over sacd if’n I was given the choice. About 1/3 of my digital discs are sacd vs cd then quite a few dvd-a’s.

    Now blu ray audio…..
    That’s a sweet format.

I got on board with both, much prefer SACD now. They are still coming out with SACD's and completely stopped DVD-A. Until my flood I had a great selection of DVD-A, still have them some are just water logged.

I have DVD-A's that suc/<, and SACD's that suc/<, SACD for the win because they are still manufacturing them.

And BluRay Audio is the same, not all are great, it seems like some, (just like DVD-A) they slap a badge on it, and suckers like us buy it up..

I have one DVD-A, Metallica Black album.

Was scratching my head how the format screwed that one up.

Not saying all DVD-A discs are that way, but that was an epic fail, imo, and gave a bad first impression.

CD prevails over DVD-A on this album.

Thx @ erniejade and treitz3. Yep, I crossed over. Car rides are a joy now that I’m free of radio broadcasts. Sounds great at home too.
