VHS to digital

I found an old thread talking about this but with reference to the conversion on a DVD. I'm looking for a device that will transfer the VHS recording to a USB drive and also have a pause feature. This is important to me as several tapes have memories from both our families and I want to pause the recoding when I see a "family change" happening, slip in a different USB drive and then continue. Any options that's been used that won;t break my piggy bank?
Yep, my name really is Bob.

If you want the best quality digitization from [your likely-by-now somewhat degraded] VHS tapes or film or whatever, I've several times used CinePost. They use top equipment to extract and convert the images much better than a consumer-grade VHS player. They can make USB files, DVDs, or whatever. Very reasonable prices and delivery time too!
