Polk Audio announced the return of the Monitor Series moniker to Polk's family of home loudspeakers. In 1975 Polk Audio ushered in a new era of loudspeaker performance and value with the introduction of the Monitor Series. The original Monitor Series set new standards for performance and value and put Polk Audio on track to become one of the best known and most successful speaker brands.
The Monitor Series of 2004 features two bookshelf models and three floor-standers ranging in price from $230 per pair for the Monitor 30 bookshelf, through $920 per pair for the top-of-line Monitor 70 towers. Two new Powered Subwoofers and two Center Channel models complement the clean, stylish look and effortless performance of the Monitor front channel models for life-like home theater performance.
Like the original Monitors, the new loudspeakers use small active drivers, 1-inch dome tweeters and solidly built vinyl-clad enclosures to produce sound with box-less three-dimensional imaging. The new drivers use Polk's Dynamic Balance technology and Bi-laminate composite cones to minimize cone resonance and breakup for more accurate sound. All models feature a new 1-inch polymer treated silk dome tweeter with Neodymium magnet. Ferrous-magnetic fluid in the magnet structure cools the voice coil for greater power handling and long-term reliability. All Monitor bookshelf and floor-standing models feature dual (bi-wire) 5-way binding posts, normally found on more expensive speakers.
While the original Monitor Series were known for their utilitarian appearance, the new Monitors sport modern styling designed to fit in with today's lifestyles and high tech video displays. Monitor enclosures, including matching centers and subwoofers, are constructed of low resonance MDF panels clad in furniture-grade vinyl. Both Black and Cherry wood-grain finish with Titanium finish front baffles are available. The floor standing models feature beefy stabilizer feet that ensure stability on all floors so that all of the speaker's energy goes into making sound instead of rocking the speaker for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
Along with the Monitor Loudspeakers, Polk will be introducing matching center channel and subwoofer models. The entire collection will ship to North American Polk Audio retailers in July 2004.
