Monitor 10b woofer magnets came loose

My monitor 10b’s have been sitting at my parents house for a while while I was listening to some technics speakers of dads. I went to trade them back out and in one speaker the woofer cones were froze. Taking them out I noticed I could pull the magnet off the back.
y7tpcpq8w4m2.jpeg

What I don’t get was that one was pushed in and twisted and the other was pushed out. I know he hasn’t used them since he’s had them and he doesn’t have anything that could blow the speaker. I’ve tried and tried to reposition the magnet but by hand seems like a lost cause. And I just found out that the pole piece has been pulling to one side of the voicecoil when I put it in too so I’m done with trying with my hands. I need a way to fix this, surely there’s a way. They have replacements on eBay but I’d rather see if I can fix them myself

The flux of the magnetic field twisted them. As the magnet slid and twisted it's field changed and did what it did.

Thanks for both replies! I’ll get on this soon. If it’s a complete loss and only one driver is salvageable or both are lost for some reason I’ll get a couple used.

Mr. Sharpe, I'm surprised you could have over 1,300 posts on this forum, and not be aware of this well-known issue with those drivers.

Anyway, having the jig is the key to fixing these, and then you have many years of good playback in your future!

Aha! That thread was posted after I found the drivers like this. When I found the drivers seized I believe in June or July I looked at some threads on it but they were either too hard to understand or not well put together so I basically gave up. when I found out how much the drivers were that didn’t help lol

Really didn’t want to remove the dust cap. Probably didn’t need to but too late now, I can put it back. I don’t think I’ll remove it on the other driver.

It is possible to find thin and flexible plastic that is the right size to make shims. Mine are 0.0065" and were houseplant labels, Vigoro brand. You can also make narrow feeler gages out of computer printer paper that you can confirm where the pole piece is touching the voice coil former, besides visual method.

PS: nice and clean dust cap removal. Are you a surgeon? :)

Done with the first woofer. Got the second one setting up in the jig. No scraping when I push the cone up and down. I left the dustcap on the second one, not sure why I removed the other but ok. I’m excited to hook the speakers back up. I feel like I should take the epoxy toall the other drivers in my polks! Don’t want it happening again

Just listening to Pyramid. I’m glad to have my 10’s working again but I’ve been spoiled to death by my rta12’s. It’s insane how different they sound. Even my son said the 10’s were bad compared lol I mean they aren’t awful but they aren’t fabulous either. They’re still my babies
