Ok I finally went for 2 polk 10inch subs and I plan on building 2 seperate sub boxes. I have a 96 Civic Coupe. The sub boxes will be mounted one on each side of my trunk, basicaly right against the rear bumper. My question is which way should I face the subs? towards the front of the car, upward, or towards the rear of the car? The way I have the boxes built I really cant change then after I cut the holes so I need to make the choice now.

the most imormation that I have found on the net suggests that I face them towards the trunk, but since I am mounting them right at the back of the trunk basically right over the bumper, does the subs need space in front of them? or is it ok to have them as close to the trunk door as possiable?

Thanks

most people have the boxes as far to the front of the car as they can(against the wall) and point the subs toward the rear of the car

There are audible differences by placing your subs in different locations and pointing them in different directions. Its the phenomenon known as "corner loading".

    Nothing is ever..."guaranteed"...but normally:

if you put them by the back seat and face them towards the bumper...you get a bit more boom!
if you face them towards the driver...you get a bit more SQ.

Facing them up in a trunk..normally get a lot of rattles...lol.

I one facing back..other facing side with good results. lot depends on what your running and the vehicle itself.

yes but in a car you corner loaind has less effect because theres so much abin gain already. in a room theres a much bigger difference between the corner and the middle of the room.

you are still right though lol

Corner loading will also smear the response a bit. I have mine firing down into the hole under my rear seat (which is a bit more extreme than a cornet) and its very sloppy.

I have found that for most applications I like placing the subs as close to the back seat as possible and firing them backwards. This also is good in that it still allows you to use your trunk easier.
