RTA 12 B Parts

I number of years ago, I had a pair of vintage RTA-12B's. I absolutely loved them! The set-up provided me with some of the finest sound I've ever had!
Then I had a small accident at my house and a flood ruined the speaker cabinets. In an effort to minimize my loss, I removed all of the components from the speakers (Speakers, Xovers, etc. - I was not able to save the passive radiators). The plan was to re-build cabinets for these components at a later date.
Well, that "later date" is here and I have to start thinking about what I'm going to do with these components. Some suggest that I purchase new passive radiators and rebuild the cabinets to their original specs. While I can see the logic in this suggestion, I have a few problems..... I do not have the original cabinet specs... and.... my 'other half' would like me to build speaker cabinets with a smaller footprint (tall tower design).
In trying to fix both of these problems at once, I thought I'd check to see if the drivers from my RTA 12 Bs were ever used in other Polk set-ups (particularly floor standing models with a small footprint). If so, I could simply purchase crossovers for this model, build new cabinets to match and install the components I have.
I really don't want to throw-out these components. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

sorry to hear about your misfortune with those speakers...
i checked on the site, and it looks like only the RTA12A & RTA12B used the MW6500 driver. i would also recommend rebuilding to original polk spec., tough to get the same performance out of a different cabinet. i would contact polk directly and talk to ken about this matter, he'll be able to help you best:

good luck, and keep us updated... -
BTW, welcome to the forum...:D

Thanks - I've been discussing it with Ken - he was unable to shed any light on the situation. He too suggested that I rebuild the original cabinets but could not provide me with any measurements on the original enclosures.
It looks like the RTA-12A, RTA-12B, the Monitor 10 and Monitor 10A all used these same drivers.... Does anyone have the dimensions for these Cabinets?

Hello...
My Monitor 12's (may also be known as the RTA 12A, or the Monitor 12A) have the following measurements:
Exterior dimensions of the cabinet without grilles:
28"h, 16"w, 11"d. Please note that the *internal* dimensions of the cabinet are more critical; I believe they used 3/4" MDF (medium density fibreboard).
The cabinet contains the two 6.5" mid-bass drivers and the 12" passive radiator. The tweeter is mounted on the top of the cabinet ("in free air"), on top of its crossover on top of a thin piece of dense foam rubber. RTA 12B's had a funny-looking plastic "ramp" down from the front of the tweeter, probably to cancel a reflection from the top of the speaker cabinet.
There's a grille over the tweeter, a 5 3/4"h x 16"w x 11"d, it just sits on top like a hat, bringing the total speaker height to 33 3/4".
The RTA 12B's had a "foot" on the bottom of the cabinet, bringing the total height to 39". The front grille adds 7/8" to the total depth, and this matches up with what I have printed on a Polk brochure that includes the 12B.
I can measure the location of the drivers in the front wall of the speaker for you, but don't have time to do it this evening. Check back on this thread soon!
