    My uncle sent this picture tonight. It's my great uncle Clayton Thomas. I'm not sure but it may have been in WW2.

    I think you’re correct, that looks like a Sherman tank.
    That weapon your great uncle’s holding looks like a .50 cal machine gun, most likely tank mounted.

    Thank you for info. I had never see that picture before. I can remember many memories of him growing up. He enjoyed cookouts & family gatherings & parades especially with my grandfather who was also in WW2 as he was in communications officer ??? Not sure what G/uncle Clayton was in services. My father was also in the European Theater in the 1960's. Not sure I understand dates & tried quick search online. It is listed on his Death Certificate & I have photos of him in uniform. I was very young in the early/mid 60s & he passed away in 1974

    It seem the European Theater was in the 1940's so I will have to investigate that more. My father was born in 1940 so something isn't adding up
