David Stephens (OldRocker)

It appears that on October 6th David Scott Stephens (@oldrocker) went to be with our lord.

His obituary is here: https://www.burkhartfh.com/obituary/david-stephens

For those too lazy to click the link:

David Stephens, 59, passed peacefully into glory at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on June 18, 1963 to the late Jerry and Pat Stephens. On June 16, 1988, he married the love of his life, Cathleen Jo Cripe. They were married 34 years.

David was a real estate appraiser for 20 years at Venture One Appraisals with his father-in-law, Richard Cripe. He loved Purdue sports, music, gardening and his dog, Hazel.

He is survived by: his wife, Cathy Stephens; cherished daughter, Nicole; brother, Loren (Teresa) Stephens of Waynetown; sister, Tammy (Clay) Willmore of Spring Hill, Tennessee; step-mother, Donna Stephens of Crawfordsville; mother-in-law, Diana Cripe of Lafayette; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Dean) Tillema of DeMotte, Indiana and Charlene (Charles) Turner of Portland, Maine; one niece, seven nephews and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 to Noon on Saturday, Oct. 15th at Fremont Street Baptist Church, 1908 Fremont Street, Crawfordsville, IN. A celebration of life will begin at Noon with Pastor Dan Aldrich officiating.

The family would like to thank Holly and Kylee at Southern Care Hospice for their care of David.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ability Services Incorporated, 1237 Concord Road, Crawfordsville, IN 47933 or Wheeler Mission, P.O. Box 3085, Indianapolis, IN 46206.

My apologies for not catching this before now and thanks to @pitdogg2 and @indyhawg for asking about this.

Two of my favorite memories of Dave are:

When he busted out a notepad to take notes as we were talking audio (as if I had anything of substance worth putting down on paper).

When he came to my get together in 2017 and brought over a vintage pair of B&W bookshelves he’d found and they blew me away with how good they sounded.

RIP Dave. This really bums me out. I only met him once back in 2016 when I hosted a listening session at my place, Seemed like a really good guy. Family business caused me to be late for Dan's listening session in 2017 so I just missed seeing him because he had to be back home early. He and I conversed over PM quite a few times over the past few years usually talking gear or bumping audio ideas around. I wish I had been able to get to know him better. Another one gone too soon. He will be missed.

I spoke with Dave after I won the karma of his Hafler power amp back in 2018. He was only a year older than I am. We had a few pleasant exchanges about the crossovers Trey built for me and the projects he was working on or considering. And his dog Hazel.

You may recall his stories about his daughter, how he was adding components to her audio set-up, and how much she enjoyed the music he shared with her. She was always so appreciative. He has left behind a wonderful audio legacy.

I concur, Those B&W's are the only B&W speakers I've every liked. They blew me away that day as well. Such Sweet sounds and bass that was deep and very articulate. A very well balanced set of bookshelves that played way beyond what you would normally expect for their size.

Dang, terrible news. By his moniker, I assumed he was much older than he was. We share the same birthday, which oddly makes it more impactful to me. Prayers to his family and friends.
