Dumb Question #213:

What is MKII?

I have noticed this across different brands. I assume it is some kind of standard like THX.

Insight appreciated,

Nah, MKII is just usually a second version of something that comes out...

I.E. My old Harman kardon AVR80 MKII was a enhanced version of the original AVR80.

There's the Adcom 545...then the 545MKII...and etc, etc, etc...

not sure if that is what you were looking for...

Yep, another example is the Parasound HCA-2200 MkII which is the John Curl revision of the HCA-2200. Trivia :D
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

In the 'audio' sense as we are describing here, 'Mark' is the sign, writing, ticket, or label put upon manufactured goods to distinguish them from others. It's going along the same principal that Polk uses with the 'i' (for improved). It lets you know WHICH RT800 it is, the first (mkI RT800), or the improved RT800i (mkII).

Don't read into that, that MKII is always better than MKI (usually not labeled at all). It's just a way of distinguishing one product from another, usually products that are similar, but to which modifications / changes have been made.

It's was also common in old(er) automobiles, ie Lincoln Mark II.

    Cheers,
