Free: Hitachi SR-604 Silver Face Receiver.

It is quite attractive, nice cosmetics and can play very loud for its rating.

My son was using it and it just died. There was a day that I’d love to fix it myself and am torn but I just have too many things going on and too much stuff.

It is free, local pickup (21043) if someone would like to take a crack at it.

    1) Nice piece of hardware! :) Note the "Class G" (dual power rail) architecture, which was innovative at the time, and is still found in some pretty serious modern amplifier hardware.
    2) None too far from where I grew up (apropos of nothing). ;)

In all seriousness, this is a good opportunity for anyone interested in vintage hifi hardware and either mad skilz or interest in ss hardware troubleshooting and repair.

We had this thing driving some EPI Mangus 10s and it rocked the neighborhood.

Hopefully just a protection fuse blew?

Nice looking piece of gear and nice offer.

Good meeting you as well. 4 of the 9 power transistors get very warm when the unit fires up. Originals are no longer available but I've sourced what I think are appropriate replacements. I'm a total rookie at this so I have no clue if they will fix the problem. If nothing else it will give me some good experience. Good luck with the Volvo. The volume knob on the radio will take care of that trans noise if it gets too loud!

The volume knob helps but I need to upgrade the sound system. It came with the basic sound system and it sucked. I upgraded the speakers and the external amp but it can't come close to the Premium Sound system that was in my first V50. The P1 Volvos are a PITA to do audio upgrades because of the integration and optical MOST bus.

  • Such a shame the Hitachi is in Maryland and I'm in South Carolina. I believe I know exactly what's wrong with it. Just repaired one today.

Funny, I was just tinking about that the other day. Might try to contact (joebass3). I'm not sure if he ever got it working or not.
