Hi- What should I set for the crossover freq on my sub and on my receiver to receive the best possible bass. The choices on my receiver are 80, 100, and 120. The levels on my sub go from 50-150. I own the Denon 3802 receiver, Polk rt 800's for fronts, Polk cs400 center, will be purchasing the Polk f/x 500i's for surrounds in the near future, and an infinity bu-120 sub. Thanks

i think you will find 80hrz is a standard, so i would start there. try all three to see what sounds the best to you, it will probably sound best set at 80, but it can't hurt to play....

Like Juice21 said, 80hz would be fine, and use the crossover of your Receiver and set your Subwoofer crossover way up so that you won't double the crossover filtering. With this set up your sub will produce frequencies 80hz and below. You L,C,R,LS,RS,CS spealers would be relieved from sub bass duties, improving their imaging.

    Cheers

The 120 is a good ht sub, and the 800's and 400 can take a pounding. If I was to GUESS as to what may sound the best, I would prefer an un-filtered line out (I dont know if the 3802 offers this), but either way, 800 Large, 400 Large (some users here actually prefer small on the 400), manually dial the sub in, somewhere around 50-60Hz to make a nice 'blend' with the 800's.

(about 1/3 octave higher than the lowest useable bass from your 800's)

Playing it by (your) ear, vs using provided settings will always turn out better....
