Does anybody know if dish washer and food processor should have a designated line from a circuit braker? I have a kitchen remodeling project here in CA. and would like to get some feed back from a Certified Electrician or experienced person here in the forum.

The kitchen has a dedicated 20 amps for outlets and a 30 amps for the dishwasher and food processor. It also has a 40 amps for stove.

any "motor" is suppose to have a dedicated circuit I assume you talking about the thing in your sink that grinds up food when you say "food processor "

so yes the dishwasher and garbage disposer each get their own circuit

If you are asking about a counter top food processor, it does not need a dedicated circuit.

    hope that helps.

Electical codes are a local kind of thing. What I mean is, since you're in CA, you need to find out what codes you need to follow for where you live.

CA MIGHT have city, county, or state requirements. I don't know, I'm from Ohio. Sooooo, you need to find out who's code you need to follow.

I know here in fla. anyways, you have to have a ground fault outlet anywhere near a water source, like kicthens, bathrooms and outside outlets

edit: opps, i was thinking outlets not large appliances, after i read food processor, don't mind me.. :)

Typically, but not universally, a dishwasher and a garbage disposal are required to have their own dedicated grounded 15 amp 120 volt circuit, minimal. This would mean a run of at least 14 Ga., 3 conductors (or 14/3 wire), depending on the length of the run.

This doesn't mean you can't exceed code, such as running 20 A. circuits, but you'd have to increase the conductor size also, say 12/3. But it would still have to be dedicated.

A quick call to your local code enforcement office would clear it up.

I'm not trying to sound like a licensed electrician, 'cause I'm not. I just have a little experience in this stuff.

I hate all the NEC stuff. I'll stick to the NESC! (before the meter, anyways.)
