These are wonderful speakers that I recently acquired. I'm curious about how does one tell if a cross over needs to be replaced or repaired. it's 30 years old and I really don't know what to listen for in a malfunction. Does anyone have any thoughts? There is an "upgrade" on ebay available for replacement and or upgrade, either $95 for a rebuild or $250 for a replacement and upgrade. Any thoughts on that? Thank you so much.

Usually there is a reduction in some reproduced frequencies, mostly high frequencies. The speaker sound very dull and lifeless. Of all the things to go wrong with a speaker, crossover failure is low down on the list. However, there can be sonic improvements from the judicious substitution of components used in the crossover. The important consideration is to either do it yourself or have it done by either of the crossover artists who are members of this forum.

Thank you so kindly for the input. Very helpful. Here is a link I came across on ebay. Does anyone have experience with this person, or who is recommended in our group?

I recommend DHS speaker service, also @westmassguy on this forum. He is excellent for crossover upgrades but can also walk you through all other Polk sonic upgrades that have been developed by those on this forum. He meticulously rebuilt my crossovers with excellent results.

I studied the crossover photo, do not spend your money on that.
