Hello:
How do I know if the SRT subs are blown? When I play DVDs, often both subs are making a kanocking noise, it almost sounded like something is lose inside the subs.
I opened both of them up and everything seem OK.
Can I still get spare parts it and what part would you replace first?
SUBWOOFER driver 1x MW1080, 1x MW1082
SDA Xover RF2230-1 (AMP)
Thanks

Welcome to the club ...
That's usually an indication that they're hurtin ...
Take the drivers out and take a look at where the spiders connect in the center ... they have a tendancy to pull away from where they are glued there even with normal use. If your not sure and only one sub is doing it then you can swap one of the drivers with the other side to see if the problem moves with the swapped driver or stays behind.
As long as they haven't ripped they can be reglued.
If they've ripped or you just feel like shelling out ca$h for new ones Polk does still have replacements for both of them. -
Confirming what Rick said but make sure you use a glue that has some 'flexade' properties to it such as the 5 min two part Araldite, if you dont and use a super glue it will crack and break the spider, they are easy to reglue if it has not come off all around the circumferance. The hardest part is taking the drivers out, not a lot of room for getting an 'allan' key into but just a bit of fiddling around. If you want some step by step instructions feel free to ask, I did it quite a few times until all four were done all the way around, sound just like new. Brody

Thanks Brody05 and PolkWannabie. You guys are right on. Both MW1080 and MW1082 spiders (yellow disk) are pulled away. What brand of glue do you recommend (Brody05 where can I get this min two part Aralditeand) will I able to buy it form Polk?
Once again thank you -
I doubt Polk will sell it but they are aware of the problem with those drivers becomming unglued and changed to a different glue. The Araldite over here in New Zealand may not be available there, it is made by 'selleys' and is called a 'crystal' type epoxy, I would try to find out what 'common' glue is used in the US for this kind of job, the 5 min stuff gives you time to get some in there as it is a bit awkward, (I used a 'syringe' and 'blunt cannula' which should be able to be bought from any chemist because the two part glue needs to be mixed before application so it doesn't have a nozzle like you find on superglue). You know how some glues when they dry they are either real hard and if on clothihg for ex will crack when bent, that is what superglue does, the other type when dry is to a certain degree flexable and wont crack when stressed. I would PM Rick (Polkwannabie), he will know and has SRT drivers that did the same thing to him not long ago.
When you do it, don't try to do the whole thing at once (if it is a big area), I did about 3" at a time, does require some patience but they will be like brand new.
Good luck.
