I just bought two polk mm2124's. they are 400 watt rms and 800 peak. i am looking for a good cheap amp that will work for these. Im think about either a Hifonics Brutus BX1000D or Jbl Bp600. I like the jbl because its cheaper but is it worth it? please help

Myself, I like MTX, Kicker, Orion and JL Audio amps a lot so for $500 I would recommend this MTX Thunder801D. Its rated at 400x1 or 800x1 but be careful with the gains as MTX amps are freaking powerhouses and this thing is putting out a lot more than its rated.
MTX is my favorite for $350and down, with Kicker in at 2nd
Orion is my pick for $350 and up with JL tagging behindpolkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

The brutus is too small, unless you get the bx1500d....
2 4ohm subs can't get a 1ohm load.......
I'd go with the bx1500d for headroom for future upgrades....
oh yeah MTX doesn't put out "alot" more than its rated......just a bit. Same as kicker......Testing

the brutus 1000 will do 50 watts under, the 1500 will do 50 watts over...either or is pretty good
im sure the 1000 will probably put out more than 800 watts at 2 ohms anyway

I have always had good experience with Kenwoods, but that's only with the smaller 4ch ones i use. I'd reccomend Kicker if you wnat cheap power, but I wouldnt kill em, they arent the sturdiest.

Well hell partner, dont take my word for it.
Take a gander at Performance Auto Sound review of the MTX Thunder942. Its rated at 235x2 at 14.4 volts but put out 295x2 at only 13.9 volts. Thats 60 watts per channel more and at a lesser voltage. Thats A LOT!
For a second opinion check out this Carsound & Performance review of the Thunder500D which is rated at 250 watts at 4 ohms and 12.8 volts. At this level, the MTX put out 456!!!!!!!!! Now thats an AWFUL LOT! Its also rated at 500 at 2 ohms but at 14.4 volts put out almost 1000!
A little while back there was a guy that posted on here with a MTX 4 channel that was rated at 25x4. We gave him a hard time about it and he posted the birthsheet which rated the amp at 55x4! Not to be redundant but thats A LOT! (I searched forever but cant find that damned thread)polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
