We have been with State Farm for 22 years and the wife wants to switch. She says we can save $2200 annually. Thanks for any feedback. D

who is she comparing it with?....insurance everywhere is or is getting quite expensive and thats if you can find it .....in Fl A LOT of companies have pulled out

They start off comparatively low, then over next few years the rates will keep increasing. We have noticed it especially with the auto insurance policy.

I saved my Mother $500 by switching her from AAA to Country Financial. Line by line exactly the same coverage as AAA. She had been with AAA for 10 years, no tickets no claims EVER.

Sometimes when you have been with someone for a long time, they will keep increasing the price. You must put them in check very once in awhile.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

So true longevity means nothing now a days....well worth shopping around no longer than every 2 years, if you can bundle it usually results in a discount either way the future doesn't look much better

Generally about every 5-7 years you should switch for the best rates. Of course best rates don't mean best service so be aware of that.Gustard X26 Pro DAC

I was with State Farm for about as long, and the other posters are right, loyalty means zip to them. The only other suggestion when shopping around is you have to compare apples to apples, policy to policy. Some will give you a great price but cover little. I switched to a company called Erie, nice people , reasonable prices. They don't insure any of the coasts, where all the risks seem to be from storms, earthquakes, hurricanes, and they stay mostly midwest.HT SYSTEM-

I began working with a broker about 5 years ago and they have provided great service and have saved me thousands of dollars. For both my home and auto last year, instead of renewing, they got a quote for a new policy and it saved me money. Same company, same coverage, but the new policy was less expensive than renewing the old policy.

So just to be clear, the savings on insurance plus what you pay the broker still saves you money?

Late reply. I’m at a cabin in Oklahoma with spotty internet, so haven’t replied.
I haven’t done a side by comparison on cost, but its in line with what I’ve paid in the past. I’m sure it’s cheaper not to have an agent, but I don’t think an independent agent is any more expensive than a company agent (as @anonymouse has already stated).
I feel as though my agent is better than most, but it could be because I know them (I bough my current home from them) or it could be that I’m one of their better customers (I have five policies with them between personal and business).
I live in a small town so you want get this kind of service in a bigger city, but my son had a bad car accident a couple of years ago and they took care of everything related to auto insurance and I never even called them. That kind of service is worth a lot.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden
