hey guys i got a question for you.

Im redoing my system, but i've come to a crossroads.

Should i got with infinitys 3way multi-element kappa speakers, or get that same line, but in a component setup(tweeter seperate from woofer).

i know the tweeter, being closer to my head will give me better sounding highs, but is it really worth the extra work of custom mounting them in my a-pillars(i would flush mount them to give it a "factory" look.

i guess what i'm asking if if the tweeter being closer to my head really makes that big of a difference.

thanks in advance.
alex

ok, you mean 3-ways as in a triaxial right?
    like 3 speakers on one?
if so, then yes, get the comps, theyll be much better!
you will be powering them with an external amp right?

The components will be better because the higher a frequency is the more directional it is and when you have tweeters firing into your leg you are missing out on a lot of the highs. You will hear the highs from the opposite speaker because youll be more in line with the tweeter. This will also skew your soundstage to the right quite a bit.

Go with the components. Youll be glad you did.

    thanks guys.

and yes, i do plan on amping these. I plan on purchasing Infinity's Kappa Perfect Component set. If you think i can do better in that range, let me know. i am open to suggestions. However i do like infinity, they have beautiful highs.

I dont like Infinitys because they are too bright for heavy metal which is abot 90% of what I listen to. I recommend MM6 for anything under $400 with the Diamond Audio M6 a close 2nd. For $400 and over I give the nod to the Focal Polyglass series.

However, if you know the sound of Infinitys and like em, and dont listen to music with any kind of heavy guitar then go get em! ;)

agreed, if you like the Infinitys and are going to amp them, grab the components
    3-way speakers are worthless IMO

If you must go with Infinity I would look into the Kappa Perfect series. They are $400 on SoundDomain (buth they are on sale for 10% off which would be $360). They are still awfully bright but the are a little smoother than the Kappas.

By bright I mean that they have a lot of treble and the highs are accentuated a lot more. A darker or warm sounding speaker would be one like the Polk Momo or JL Audios in which the midrange is more dominant. It really depends on your listening tastse. I have run across people who swear by Infinitys speakers and would have nothing else. If you have heard the Kappa Perfects and like them then by all means get them. They are not a **** speaker by any means, but for my musical tastes they are a good match at all.
