I'm not sure of the model but the earlier model M10 was my first Polk audio speakers. I was hooked.

What do you mean by "amazing change"?

IIRC there was no 10C. I will have to verify because my mental notes I make aren't as reliable as they used to be :|

Wasn't it something to do with the bezel on the top of the cabinet VS it being flush ???

Amazing Change... going from a set of mediocre bookshelf speakers to real speakers. Just never spent the money before... I got these at an auction place for just over 300. There were two of the 10s and a Monitor 2 in the package. They looked good, and when I plugged them in they sounded amazing!

On the list of Vintage Polks it shows 10, 10 Series 2, 10A and 10B. So your mental notes are reliable in this aspect.

Polk didn't seem to change the model name when they switched from SL1000 to SL2000 tweeters on the 10's so both were called Monitor 10B's. They may be a good reason for that but I can't imagine what it was. I would have called them 10C's to highlight the new tweeter.

The SL2000 was a downgrade from the SL1000.

The front beveled edge gives the 10C away.

I don't know. Doesn't look like it. If you look at pgs 24,25,26,31 of the pdf file you can see that it is the 10B and it has the beveled edge. Audio Magazine Oct. 1989. Then in 1990 they came out with the 10 Series 2 so it doesn't look like there was ever a 10C. Same holds for the 5C; never existed.

In Audio Oct. 1990 is Series 2

Well the "C" must stand for crackly due to the "upgraded" SL2K.

I called B's, only 'cuz of the SDA conversion I helped with looked exactly like those.

10b was the last designation before the series 2. Had Sl2000 tweeter, beveled cabinets with the logo on the bottom right of the grill. So, those are 10b's, IMHO. Never heard of a 10c.

Though I agree that early 10b's didn't have the sl2000.

Happy to! I assume you don't need to see both, (they are pretty matched since the number is one off for the other one: ends in 459 rather than 460 like the image)

I checked the Audio magazines from the multi page adv. in Oct 89 issue showing the 10B to the Oct 90 issue with the 10 Series 2 and there was no mention of a 10C in those in between issues. That's all I gots to say bout that.

Yeah, I think the versioning wasn't ISO 900x-compliant in those days (much less in the early days).
That's a relatively late-model, judging by the sticker.
My "Monitor 5" pair -- whatever version or series they be -- have tags like that one (FWIW).

Here's an old photo of one of them (also FWIW).

    xfo5i1wo033w.jpg

This pair was the kind gift of one of the southern MA audio geeks (ex-of AK) and have served well, "silver coil" SL2000 tweeter notwithstanding. ;) Our son used these in college for a couple of years and they lived to tell the tale! :)
