Central AC Tempstar 25 years old motor went out figured why replace the motor at that age as I was told if the compressor went out it would not be repairable.

To make a long story short I decided to replace it with all the BS of avalibllity of items, and needing one fast was able to find dealers with stock. The choice of brands available are Trane or York, which one should I choose?

Looks like they have 10 year warranties one year Labor, Trane's are a bit pricer they both get decent reviews Trane seems to be the favorites. I'm not going top of the line on models offered of both brands plan on moving in the next few years.

If you don't plan on hanging around, go with whatever one has a transferable warranty to the next owner, as a selling point

Visit the cost of motor versus cost of new unit. Motors, while expensive, are nowhere near the cost of a new unit. Everything is a gamble and things ain't built like they used to be.

There are other factors as well but weigh them all before pulling the trigger. My 2¢, no one else's....

By "moror" I assume you mean the condenser fan (aka "bellyband") motor

Not that expensive, easy DIY, and available at Lowes, Home Depot, or Grainger.

Check with your local electric company too for energy rebates/discounts on ne AC units
They'll give you a list of approved/certified installers who should be able to tell you about rebates .

Fan motor went out, other than that it's hard to find parts for it, prior to that motor fan going out we noticed it wasn't cooling as well as it used to possibly needing a freon recharge and R22 is no longer available. Plus besides its age the seer value is low on an old unit like that.

That's why we want to replace it. We bought the house next door to us last year for the Daughter and grand kids to live in and it has a fairly newer York system in it. Availability on most anything is hit and miss any more and it's a take what's available kind of world we live in. I have read a lot of good things about Tranes quality they and American Standard seem to be the preferred ones. The York is also rated pretty well and less expensive but I'm leaning towards the Trane.

It's hot humid and miserable. I went to menards and bought a portable 10,000 unit that you can move it around from room to room. The Wifes staying at the kids house so I'm setting it up in the 2 channel room cool it down and crank the tunes the house to myself what could be better.

Ended up getting a Trane, it's been put to the test the past few days hot humid , today it was 98 with 112 heat index. Runs quiet cant even hear it unless your standing next to it. These Midwest summers can be unbearable.
