I looked all over for the thread and couldn't find it but someone said they stopped at the PE store and picked up some speaker stands on sale. I believe it was Brettw22 who said "not with $40 shipping". I looked also and shipping was $40. Well, now that they are not on sale the shipping is down to $22. I was quite surprised PE did that sort of thing!

Chain stores are very bad too. Raise prices by 10%, then offer 10% off, all part of the game.

Will send an e-mail to them, asking whats up? Can you imagine if someone tried that in the Flea Market the flaming that would happen?
They should at least hear about it. -
I believe I will as well! I've bought a lot of stuff from them without as much as a second thought. Well, I'm having the second thought now! I urge everyone who has purchased from them in the past to send them an email questioning their policy about this sort of thing. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe some new lowlife exec just entered the scene or maybe they just decided to start doing this type of thing. I don't know which it is but whatever the case it IS NOT OK to continue. I think a few strong emails will make this evident.

Ordered some speaker stands from them.
They arrived with parts sticking out of the box. Poor pack job? Ups? whatever,
I refused the order and it was returned to them.
7 weeks later and 5 different phone calls later, I got them to credit my card.
Each time I spoke with someone they seemed sincere and swore this doesn't usually happen, but then nothing would happen in the way of a refund.
They offered me a 10% off coupon as a way of saying sorry....at this point it's
"thanks but no thanks "

I've noticed several instances like you mention with the DOTD, where shipping was inexplicably high. I checked shipping on those speaker stands though, and it was $26.something for me, which doesn't really seem unreasonable, considering what they weigh. ( I just checked again: Now it's $27.30 .
I'd call and complain--- You might get free shipping on your next order, or something.
I second the poor packaging! I've bought a lot of stuff from PE over the last couple of years, but I've had at least 6 instances of damaged merchandise that I can think of off the top of my head. They've always taken care of it more-or-less to my satisfaction, but it gets to be a pain to return stuff. They usually throw all the stuff in the box, then put a little bit of that expanding foam material on the top. Which does basically nothing.

I wouldn't order anything but expendable merchandise from that outfit. If it contains the word "express" in the title, I immediately get waryCTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

That was my problem with them. Shipping to me was $40 then, $22 now that they are full price. $22 is only slightly higher than what UPS quotes which is fine and dandy with me. Just for the fun of it if you get the chance check and see what shipping to you is now. UPS didn't change their rates because the stands were on sale...
