not sure if in stock says to "please call" but it's worth a shot to save around $600.....(retails for $1499.00)

Sony has been recalling all their digital drive receivers. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I guess that explains the price drop on that site....

    Thanks for the heads up.

It is not a total recall, just a recall on those that have experienced specific problems. The problems essentially cover the 1000ES - 3000ES. Far fewer problems have been reported concerning the higher end, 5000ES - 9000ES, models.

I wouldn't recommend them at this point either, as mentioned previously by F1Nut.

There are a couple very satisfied new Digital ES owners on this board, so these statements are simply for information purposes.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

What exactly are the problems

I recently purchased a 2000 ES and have only hooked it up for a few minutes since i recently moved... I haven't had time to really sit there and mess with it... Although while i did test it, it sounded great and seemed to work fine...

A "hissing" sound has been the most common problem. The sound is often heard at normal to loud listening levels and is very audible.

It's a consumer action recall, meaning that it's not every unit that has issues, it's a case by case issue. It also means that it's on the consumer to have it resolved thru the Sony dealer chain, or service center.
