Worth restating.

100%, been saying it for years, it's all about the current.

So.........I'm wondering how much current is considered adequate and is it all created equally? Is tube current the same as ss current?

"I'm wondering how much current is considered adequate "

An example might help. Current (amperes) is equal to the square root of the power (watts) divided by the impedance (ohms). So, if we look at producing 350 watts into an 8 ohm speaker that would be the square root of 350/8 which would be 6.6 amperes times 2 (for stereo) which would be 13.2 amperes. This would be for an RMS measurement the peak requirement would be 18.7 amperes (Peak Current = RMS Current x 1.414). So with a power of 350 watts into an 8 ohm impedance the peak stereo demand would be 19 or 20 amperes.

That's the thing about discussions concerning Amperes -- they're always current. B)

If loudspeaker designers hadn't all gone sadistic back ca. the late 1970s and given us loudspeakers with ridiculously low impedance dips and outrageous phase angles -- current would be less of a thing to worry about.

I'm glad I put 14 gauge wire and 20 amp rated outlets in my cottage. :p

So now your wire is the fuse....should you plug a 20amp something into it.

Anything less than 200 Amps is not enough😅

    Maybe I used 12 gauge. ;)

You can't use 20 amp outlets with 14 gauge wire. It has to be a minimum of 12 gauge, 10 gauge is even better.

Yeah, 14-gauge wire is for lighting circuits. It's only real value is being able to have an acceptable number of conductors in a switch box to follow code.

Receptacles should have 20-amp breakers and 12-gauge wire. For a dedicated power amp circuit, I would recommend 30-amp breakers and 10-gauge wire.

I absolutely agree, but be aware that will not pass code, so have a 20 amp breaker stored away for the day you sell your house.

I have three 20 amp lines with 10 gauge wires. Two of the lines are for the amps (one line for each amp), and the third is for the other gear. Before I put each amp on its own line I kept popping the breaker on the circuit for the amps. After adding another line so that each amp had its own line I no longer popped any breakers. However, I did break both speakers one night, but the amps kept on working.

I have forgotten the cost of the drivers. Probably a few hundred dollars for each one.
