Well, after a couple of days of flying, I'm back in the desert...again.....at lovely Al Dhafra AB, UAE. I'd almost forgotten how lovely the desert is. NOT.
Anyhow, I should have email up in a day or so, so my compadres will be hearing from me soon.
Keep up the chatter about the impending Polkfest, it's one of the things that I'm looking forward to when I get back....

Good luck over there, Troy.

I spent some time in Dammam/Dahran Saudi Arabia. Ugliest desert I've ever seen.

Thanks for not saying "So Long" you stiff.
Hope the time passes quickly and uneventfully both there and at home.

Troy:
Hope you have a very uneventful time over there.
Polkfest 2004 is going to be a blast! Looking forward to it!
Be safe,
JohnNo excuses! -
Thanks for the well wishes, guys.....my apologies for not saying good bye to anyone before I left but with my dad and brother in law and so forth, things were pretty hectic before I left. The upshot is that everyone is doing well and this is only a 90 day rotation so it will go by pretty quickly.

Take care over there, Troy. Glad to hear the family members are doing well, too!

90 days? Only 90 days? I'm outta here headed south man. Where'd you leave the remote and the rum? Any chance you got a new recliner? That last one made my back hurt.

Great to hear everthings ok. Did you remember to pack your sunblock?
I'd keep close tabs on that Mr. Grand of the Jersey Grands. I only live about a mile off exit 2 of the NJ Turnpike, and I just got a whiff of Brylcream and bad rum.... -
Gotta drive with the windows closed.
Hey Troy,
I'm gonna need directions from your house to some of those thrifties where you been getting fairly lucky lately too if you don't mind.
George Grand (of the Jersey Grands) -
Guys chill out he's in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) its not Iraq. Troy--Ive been to Dubai and Qatar--Dubai is gorgeous i especially liked that Burj Al Arab hotel/casino.
-
It may not be Iraq, but it ain't his backyard either. His wife's medical condition is a hardship if he has to go somewhere OVERNIGHT! Chill indeed.
George Grand (of the Jersey Grands) -
Well, George, sorry to say that the chair is the same but there are two bottles of Appleton's Estate rum in the liquor cabinet, that should dull the pain somewhat. You know where everything else is. What a pal.
Desert is desert is desert. I've been to Iraq, Qatar, Oman and UAE and have learned a couple of immutable facts, they are all too friggin hot and too friggin sandy. Sleeping in a tent with seven other guys smells like foot and **** regardless of location.
As I said, the upshot is it's only 90 days. That's not even enough time to get the Brylcreme smell out of the pillow cases.
Thift shops? The Charleston AFB thrift shop and the Community Thift shop on Rivers Ave next to the Red Cross building......that's where I find all my stuff...

What a great guy! Thanks!
You get used to the smell on the pillows after awhile.
