All the other guy who emailed said was "willing to meet your price for this device" and nothing else.
Not very personable, is he? -
Lol. I wouldn’t even give that guy the courtesy of a reply.
-
Yeah he certainly didn't put very much effort into his note. Typically I would expect a greeting, a well written sentence with punctuation expressing interest and payment details, and then the person's name. Otherwise you just seem like a robot.

Nah I think he just works in IT.

That must be the case!

Send it to me. I’ll put it head to head against the Vincent and make a decision on which one to keep. I fully expect this one to be better, but not sure if it will be enough better (IMO) to warrant the extra cost.
pm on the way.
Thanks for giving me dibs on it. I appreciate it.Post edited by PSOVLSK onThings work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Nice! Looking forward to hearing about the comparison. You should be able to easily flip this one if it doesn't strike your fancy, it seems they don't come up for sale often. PM response coming.

SOLD.

Payment sent.
I’m really looking forward to hearing this. If I can’t tell a noticeable difference I probably just need to give up on vinyl😊. But I will say that I’m very impressed with the Vincent I got last week. If this piece ups the game even more I’m going to be very happy.
Hey Ron, thanks for the push🤣Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

Paul, I believe you made a great decision.
Drew, you had good luck on the sale."Sometimes you have to look to the past to understand where you are going in the future"Anger is just anger. It isn’t good. It isn’t bad. It just is. What you do with it is what matters.

This was scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, so I was pleasantly surprised when I came home for lunch and found it had been delivered. Thanks FedEx.
I changed my afternoon plans and got ready to do some listening and comparing this to my new Vincent PHO-300. Given their price difference it shouldn’t have been fair fight…and it wasn’t. Halfway through listening to Hey You by Pink Floyd I knew I was keeping this unit and sending back the Vincent (which I really liked).
I have very limited experience with phono pre’s, so I don’t want to lavish too much praise on this unit, but needless to say, I’m very happy.
Not that it needs to be said because it’s well known around here, but an awesome transaction with Drew. Packed in separate boxes, each to withstand anything FedEx could dish out.
Thanks again Drew.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

Giddy up!Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Nice, glad to hear everything arrived intact and early!
Did you try it with the wall wart power supply, or did you go straight to the dedicated LPS? Experiment with any cartridge loading options?
Happy to hear it's sounding good straight out of the box. -
Went straight to the dedicated power supply.
Haven’t played with any settings yet. Actually didn’t get to listen as much as I would have like…only about 30 minutes. Hopeful spend a couple of hours listening tomorrow.
And Ron, those aren’t my boots, they’re my son’s. You know I just a city slicker that lives in the country and talks like a hick😂Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Cool. I think I left the DIP switches for 47k and MM gain setting, but can't remember.
Check the user manual if you haven't because I think the ground switch needs to be set to one vs the other for wall wart vs psu. -
All of your settings seemed to match what I needed, but I think one or two could be set to preference, so I’ll mess with them tomorrow.
I’m now researching new carts…it’s never-ending😩😩Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Indeed!
-
I’d look around for an upgrade to your TT that has a good cart already on it. If you are patient something will pop up.

That’s a good idea. Thanks.
Little help needed. When I switch the Chassis Ground switch to AC (where it should be when using the external power supply), I get a terrible hum. When I switch to DC (the correct setting when NOT using the external power supply), no hum. Is it ok to leave it on the incorrect settings?Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Interesting! I wonder why that's happening. Maybe some sort of ground loop because of how the PSU uses a three prong plug and the wall wart doesn't?
Seems like you'll have to leave it on DC so there's no hum, but could be worth emailing CIAudio about this and see what they say, the email address is info@ciaudio.com -
Thanks. I was thinking of calling them on Monday, but I prefer email.
My electrical engineering knowledge leaves a lot to be desired, so I just wasn’t sure if I might mess something up by leaving it on DC. I didn’t really think so, but thought I’d ask.
The only troubleshooting I’ve done is switching out the power cord and trying a different set of IC’s.
Edit: Thanks Drew. Your comment about the three-pronged plug made me think to try a cheater plug. No more hum.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Quick fix!
How's it sounding tonight? -
Limited listening unfortunately, but on a nice, clean record I think it’s the best my system has ever sounded.
My next project is to go through all of my albums (only about 100) and separate the good from the snap, crackle, pop.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

It sounds, (let's ride with the pun...lol) like the AC/DC switch is a ground lift switch. If there were a short to chassis with the ground lifted, you could get a shock if you touched the shorted chassis and grounded yourself. Using a two prong cheater plug, same deal. Myself, I'd choose the no hum option and just avoid touching things and grounding myself.
While I'd never suggest it, while chasing hum issues in the past, I have touched chassis and grabbed another to see if hum went away. One could use lengths of wire too. It all depends on the risk you are willing to take.
EDIT: Like jdjohn suggested, explore the Jico SAS stylus.
