I trried it in the 8TLs yesterday while I was working on some stuff at the shop. They sound correct in that x-over. Midrange was definitely veiled in the 5Bs.

I'm still interested in dissecting, measuring and repairing a 6511 if anyone has one lying around mag-shifted or burnt coil. Let me know. Thanks, Rob

Self-bump. Still looking for a burnt 6511 or two.

After reading the Stereo Review analysis of the SDA 1C (Nov 89), I noticed that he said that the drivers employed edge wound voice coils. That would be the 6510 and 6511. Just an interesting lil factoid. I wonder how many other Polk drivers use that method of increasing Bl, and what model was the first.

The last two 6510's I had apart, I either didn't look close enough or the coils looked same as any other driver I've had apart.

Now all other dimensions and materials between a 6503 and 6510 look exactly the same, even suspension hang, but now wonder what voice coil difference is.

Of all the drivers, the spiders are all thin- weave except 6502's which have a stronger, thicker weave.

Just for the record, on my 1979 MW6500s I measure ID: slip fit to a 1.010 plug gage. OD: not round 1.057max, 1.054 min.

If I can find a good replacement for my 6511 with a damaged/glued surround I could send that one your way if you're interested
