Polk S15 front speakers mounting
Folks - I was reading a crutchfield article today which suggested for true surround, you should place the front speakers as distant as possible such that you are making a triangle to the listener that has all 3 sides same length. Is this true with the Polk s15 too? I would have to dig holes and cover the old holes to do this
Also, should I point them straight or again pitch them towards the listener? I don't see anything in the manual for this
Thanks

The baseline speaker position for 2 channel or surround has always been an equal lateral triangle. It's a baseline, it's not carved in stone as there are far too many variables.
For HT your AVR should have a calibration program that makes adjustments for distance to compensate for variables. Run that and be happy.
Front speakers generally should be toed in slightly. A good rule of thumb, from your seat you should just see the inner side panel of the speaker cabinet.Political Correctness'.........defined

Got your point about equilateral triangle for front speakers. How about rear speakers? Can they be placed much closer to the viewer. I'm planning a rough distance between front speakers to be 14 feet and the distance between rear speakers would be 8 feet. Would that be ok?

Your receiver or processor calibration will be able to compensate for the surrounds being closer than the mains. What concerns me more is this comment:. "I would have to dig holes and cover the old holes to do this"
You have the mains recessed into a wall cavity? Not a good idea no matter what speakers. -
Nothing in a wall cavity at all - I simply have to dig small holes to pull the old wires. Also, for the front speakers, should they be at same vertical level as listener or a little higher could do? Thanks

I've also read surrounds should point directly at the listener while mine won't be - is that a big deal given I can calibrate my receiver

btw most of my listening is music in or perhaps outside the room at times and movies is only 5% of the time when I'm sitting on the couch
