Landed a pair of each of these today.

Met a great guy who is prepping to move in the near future. Just so happens he lives like 2 miles from me. He's a member here, but his login got trashed in the vanilla switch. Anyway, he's lived in this area probably about as long as me, likely close to the same age. Spent the better part of an hour talking and reminiscing about what it used to be like around here audio wise. Like I said, great guy.

Hey Mars! If you happen to check out the forum, it was me!

So, 10Bs with RDO-194s and a pair of series 2 7s.

I have 3 comments.

1). I've owned boatloads of vintage monitor series over the years, however, I've never heard 194s. You guys ain't lying, they stomp the sl2000s.

2). Having never had a pair of 7s in the past, damn, they're tiny compared to 10s. I thought they were closer in size. Can't really comment on differences with the 10s since one of the 7s has a bad tweeter. Yes, I new this. Like I said, Mars is a great guy.

3). Build quality on the monitor series 2 is crap compared to earlier series. Yes, they sound good, but the cabinet construction and vinyl application leaves a lot to be desired.

4). Ok, I lied, one more comment. Anybody have an sl2500 squirrelled away? Need one for the monitor 7.

You should be able to find a SL-2500 easy enough. Better yet buy two RD-0198's they are the
replacement tweeter for the SL-2500 and much better. Nice find! :)

Honestly, I've been hoping for a pair of Peerless 7s to pop up, but no love. Given the reduced build quality, I don't think investing in a pair of 198's for the series 2 7s is a good choice. Don't get me wrong, they will get used, but like many of us, resale value comes into play.

Maybe try to find some SL3000 tweeters from some one. The rd-0198's are the shnizzle again far superior to the SL3000's.

Just curious......in what way would you say the cabinet construction is inferior on the 7 Series II relative to, say, the 7B Peerless? One thing I will say is that the passive looks different from my 7B Peerless's. My passive looks like the one in the 10 you show, with a larger planar section.

I like it when stereo stuff moves from one person to another that loves stereo stuff.

Good luck getting those 7's going.

Seems like a lot of 10's and 7's are on the move lately. :p
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Maybe I'm just stuck on the previous generation monitors, but the cabinet construction on the series 2 is different. The front baffle still seems to be 3/4", but the rear panel is not recessed the same. Looks to me the sides and bottom of cabinet are thinner. Picking one up, the weight would seem to confirm that. Maybe the internal bracing is different, and it's nothing. Grill design is different too. More open plastic frame, which could be a good thing, but again, just doesn't "feel" the same.

But with one dead SL2500, I can't evaluate them properly. So again, who has an SL2500 in their stash they'd be willing to part with!?

In comparison, the 7c weighs 34lbs according to the manual. I haven't thrown the series 2 on a scale, but they feel lighter than that.
