Is my tweeter shot?

Hi all. New here with a recent purchase of a Monitor 10. I think it is the original Monitor 10 with the non peerless tweeter. My tweeter from reading some materials here are the SL2500? Anyways, recently my left speaker sounded really muffled. The tweeter although dented, sounded fine until just recently. I'm not sure what that squirly thing is to the side, but noticed it came off recently. Would that have killed my tweeter or did it just went bad?

That's your voice coil lead, it's what sends the music signal through the tweeter. Yes, it needs to be connected. You could likely re-solder it.

That "squirly thing" is wire that provides electricity to the tweeter, so with it disconnected as shown in your photo, the tweeter will not function.

Well, since nobody has said so yet, those are SL2000 tweeters. Pop it out and test it with an ohmmeter.George / NJ

Your Monitor 10's are not the original version, not even close. That tweeter is the SL2000 and looks like hell. If I were you I'd look on eBay for a replacement.

Sorry, but another question if you don't mind. I can't seem to find a replacement tweeter on ebay that's in any good shape. Would you recommend getting the RDO-194 from Polk? Also could I just replace the dome diaphragm? And if so, do you know what to search for on ebay or anywhere that would fit? -
