AudioQuest Opt VS. MIT Digital RCA.

AudioQuest Opt VS. MIT Digital RCA.

AQ: The sound is tight and close to the speakers. (Would you call that focused?). There’s a falter Freq response with the exception of the midrange, mids seem to be more pronounced.

MIT: The sound seems to gain more depth and extend out further in front and behind the speakers. There’s more separation from the freq response giving the sound a more lively feeling. This is exactly what I was looking for, as my system tends to be more laid back in its presentation.

I can’t explain it but my decibel meter’s needle seem to “dance” around a lot more with the MIT cable like it was as excited as my ears were while listening to it. The conclusion is that the MIT will be the cable I listen to the most often. I think I’ll leave the AQ opt hooked up for a little while longer so I can continue to do more A/B comparisons as I listen to different material.

I have not tried the AQ power cables yet. I’m burning in a new pair of speaker cables and I don’t want to change to many variables. So after listening the speaker cables for a few months I’m going to switch back to the old pair and then do my comparison. Then I’ll work in the AQ power cables.

You'll get opinions all over the map. Options on power cables are many and frankly I wouldn't put AQ power cables near the top.

Just my opinion on that. I have tried many AQ cables over the years and always wind up selling them. They bring a more lively sound to the table, but at the expense of soundstage and depth in my view. I have a MIT digital coax cable which I think is a good all arounder. My reference digital for years has been an Audio metallurgy ga-0 which isn't made anymore. Blackcat also makes a good digital cable as I'm sure many others do as well.

When it comes to cables, it's more so a trial and error thing as different systems and ears respond to them differently. Some cables bring the mo-jo, others take a little away. To shorten your list of prospects, ask others what they use, have used, with roughly the same gear. Price is also going to dictate results up to a point but there are always bang for your buck products .

I completely understand the subjectiveness of this topic. I've seen marvda1's post on the blackcat cable and I'm half tempted to buy one and compare it to the MIT.

You do realize that the optical connection and 75 ohm digital connection are two entirely different ways of digital transfer and there are inherent differences in each format. So while it's good you've picked the presentation you prefer, it may not be solely because of the cable. It could be because of the method implemented to turn the digital bits into analog.

Just something to think about while enjoying and experimenting in this hobby. I think you'll find in many cases higher end listeners prefer the 75 ohm digital connection over the optical. Not always, as there are no absolutes in this "subjective" hobby.
