Polk Monitor 10 how to remove woofer?

I want to remove a driver from my Polk Monitor 10s to see which driver version it is. Sorry for the dumb question, but is it "glued" in and do I need to redo it after removal or how do I remove and / or replace it?

It's not actually glued in. At the time Polk used a product called Mortite instead of real gaskets. Unfortunately, the Mortite tends to become a bonding agent. You will have to pry the driver out.

After removal scrape all that crap off and replace with speaker gasket material such as sold at Parts Express.

Not glued in, just remove the screws. Might need a bit of gentle prying as it may seem stuck after 40 years. Be careful not to damage the gaskets as you'll need to reuse them.

I suggest you have someone ready to catch the driver as prying it out will make it pop out.

  • He has the light grey foam gasket tape like mine came with. You can see where the tape sticks out where it overlaps.

Lay them flat on their backs. Mask tape the front face where your thin screwdriver will be prying as to not chip/damage the black laminate baffle material.

[remove terminal cup in back. Remove pr using pressure from back. Remove midbass from within the pr hole

That's another good way, but more work. I use two stiff putty knives, one on each side of the driver. The wide blade is much less likely than a screwdriver to damage the bezel.

Maybe with the rear terminal cup removed, the model numbers of the drivers can be seen from inside, and won't have to actually be taken out.
