Rear/Side surround setup - 5.1
Hello,
Just moved into a new house and I've got Legend L600's for fronts, LSiM 706c center (will be the L400 pretty soon,) and the previous owner left some Klipsch bookshelf speakers mounted to the wall on the sides of the couch listening position for the 5.1 surrounds. I'm currently using these since I just moved in and while they're ok, I have a pair of LSiM 702's that I have no doubt are superior speakers to the Klipsch's, but the problem is they could really only be mounted pretty much directly to the left/right of my listening position so I'm feeling like perhaps they may not end up being worth it due to the design of the 702 and I really wouldn't feel the full effect of them. Do you think it would be worth hooking these up and going this route, or perhaps is there a bookshelf speaker that I should go with instead? I was considering getting the L100's, but I just wasn't sure how mountable they'll be/if it would be worth it.

I was under the impression that you could mount the LSiM 702s exactly where the current Klipsch surround speakers are without any issues. I don't think their design will adversely affect your experience, just because they are not forward/front firing like the Klipsch. Someone with more HT setup experience should chime in to correct me if necessary though.
Are you using an AVR/processor with a calibration mic? There isn't a ton of surround sound information most of the time, and I would think a calibration program could compensate for the Klipsch's horn tweeter. However, it still won't be timbre matched with the Legend speakers unfortunately.
As a side note, I am not sure I would be in a rush to upgrade from the LSiM 706c, it is an excellent center channel especially when run by a dedicated (non-AVR) amplifier.
