Be careful guys, we are making newbies afraid to post here. I got a message, actually two which expressed this. Both posted previously but are afraid they will become the center of our attention if they ask the wrong question or have the wrong opinion. Why they told me, I don't know but I do know I too would be afraid to post here if I didn't know all you smartasses so well. :)

I remember catching a little flak when I first started posting, I shot back in kind. One needs to have gonads to get anywhere in life and the same holds true for here. To those who feel afraid to post I say, grow some big hairy ones or crawl back into your hole.

    Anthony,

Who told you "Turn it down ****"? Was it one of the hermaphrodites from across the river in Transylvania? Wouldn't surprise me.

It's true, you guys are just brutal on the newbies.

Sometimes it gets like Jim Jones on acid.

Granted the WWW is nuts, but like I've said in the past, isn't this place supposed to be better than that?

I am enjoying a glass of Ron del Barrilito, 86 proof Puerto Rican rum as I type. Actually, enjoying would be a stretch. This stuff is pretty rugged. Another boom operator brought it back from P.R. for me last month. I'll be "saving" this rum for mixed drinks it is so good, and will shortly be switching over to Gosling's Black Seal for the remainder of the evening. Salute to you as well my friend!

For what it's worth, the couple times I've posted to this forum I've gotten good and fast responses to them. Nobody's given me a hard time, rather, they've been helpful.

Just out of curiousity, I've got a bottle 12 yr Tortuga rum. Appears to be a blended rum from the Grand Caymans. Any idea if rum ages like scotch? Been sitting around for 4 yrs looking for an excuse to be opened.

    phoneisbusy,

Rum is aged before it is bottled... once it has been bottled there is no real benefit to its flavor.

I agree Max. I've noticed it too, and it goes beyond "poking-fun" at folk's--alot of it crass, smartass remarks that don't even begin to answer the original question asked. Anyone who has been on a forum for more than 10 seconds knows that you're going to see some the same questions asked over and over--welcome to forums. We shouldn't be short with new folks asking these questions. Remember, everyone was a newbie at one time.

12 years old is not too shabby for rum. If it's a nice dark rum it's probably pretty special.

One of my favorites on the official/unofficial "Ten Best" list is only 5 years old. Flor de Cana from Nicaragua.

    Drink it and see.

The only dark rum I don't chase is Myers. I want to like it, and I like the taste, but I drank a bottle someplace onetime and it gave me a headache AND a real bad stomach ache. I don't like that.

HEY! Don't screw up that Tortugas rum with Pepsi or Coke or any **** like that! Unless it's crystal clear rum and then you'll probably need the help getting it down.

The problem with newbies that stand up for themselves is that other members that had nothing to do with the initial confrontation sometimes join in to back their buddies. This is often justified, but sometimes it just becomes a frenzy on the new guy.

I've got a bottle of Appleton's Extra with the wrapper still on waiting for the day we meet George.
