2ch amp driving 4 speakers

Okay, my Zapco does 50x2 @ 4ohm or 100x2 @ 2ohm. If I hook up 4 speakers in serial to it, (all 4 ohm, which makes the load 2ohm), do you think it would sound alright? I really want some rear fill because I do have people riding in the back seat, but don't really want to invest into another amp.

I would be running MMC650s in the front and db525s in the rear.

Gracias.

You can do it, but you lose the ability to fade from right to left. You'd still have balance from front to back though. It just reduces your fine tuning and tweaking ability. Wouldn't hurt anything though. Good way to get the full power from your amp.

Serial? That would be paralell. Serial would be series which would be an 4 ohm load.

Another downside would be that your rear speakers will be the same volume as the front which will skew your soundstage drastically. And also since youll be having the same frequencies hitting you from different distances, the detail will smear a bit.

It will work fine for most people but if youre super picky about your sound quality then you probably would be a lot happier with a 4 channel amp that you can fade or bett yet, doing without rear speakers at all.

Ah, right, parallel, forgot. That's what I meant ;)

Hmm, well being that I have a loud exhaust, not the best quiet tires (chose sticky over quiet) I'm not REAL concerned about the super details.

I've got my home system for that :)

My head unit doesn't have an internal amp.

I hooked up the rear db525s to one of the Zapcos yesterday, did the full wire-through-the-door and everything (12g wire). So I am sans sub at the moment, but it still sounds nice and has some good bass. I'll see what the MMC650s do to the car (they'll be replacing ex365 (components)).

Yeah, probably not. The Alpine 7995 was like $100 more than the next step down. Only difference I could tell was a different color and no internal amp...
