Just set up my "new" amp. Parasound HCA-2200II. Got it hooked up to my Lsi7s right now. Wow what a difference 400 watts makes. I am completely hooked. Totally opened up the little 7's. Makes me really want to hear the 15's on the parasound.

Where'd you get it? What are you using as a preamp? I know you have a yammy rxv2400 but can/are you using that for a preamp? btw congrats on the new equipment.

    Hey fellas,

    In order of replies:

    Completely, hopelessly, wallet suckingly converted.

Nope, decided that I am going to be moving soon, and the place I (hopefully) will be buying has a very large theater room. Really just an excuse to get the PB2+:D

Picked it up locally from a classified ad in craigslist.com. Yea, I am running the 2400 as my pre. Thanks, BTW when you get your 7's, I highly reccomend the use of separates. They sounded good before, but the difference is huge.

Yeah I'd like to use seperates but right now my cash situation is at about 400/500 (cdn lol) so it doesn't look like I'll be able to afford a pre and amp for a while unless I pick up something used... Not too keen on the idea of buying used from somone across the country or in a different one cause if something goes wrong with it im kinda screwed (plus shipping is annoying). I prefer to go new cause I know that it hasn't been abused and if it fritz's I don't get screwed over.

I found these ads in the buy/sell but haven't checked them out to see if they are sold yet or not. Any thoughts? Keep in mind I know bearly anything about amps and pres so if I have a pos on this list I won't be suprised.

ADCOM amp, mod GFAGFA545, 100W per chan, wrk perf, grt sound & shape, $1000 new, priced to selll $350

    http://www.buysell.com/bestoffer/viewoffer.asp?id=27490493

ROTEL RA-810A 2 chan amp, high current, grt cond $200 firm.

NAD 114 stereo preamp, 6 inputs incl, phono MC/MM, absol mint cond, high end sound at low cost $350.

Rotel RCD970bx CD player $250; Yamaha Tx900 4150 $150; Tx400 $95; tuners Totem Dreamcatcher, 200W pwr'd subwoofer $450 negot. (this one more for the cd player cause im using a pos dvd player to play cds)

I'm very biased towards ADCOM. My GFA 545 is as old as my RTA's, bought in 87/88 and neither has given a single bit of trouble and I listen almost everyday.

The Adcom 545 never sold for $1000 new. If I remember the original 545 sold for $499-549
    545II sold for $549-599
    5400 sold for $699.

My point here is $350 used is a bit on the high side. Typically they go for $190-250 on ebay. Heck if your willing to pay $350 I'll sell you mine w/original box and packing :D

    Peace

    Hey mike,

I hear you on the used stuff, but there is a lot of good gear out there, just take your time to find it. Probably any of those would work just fine, though I agree with Heiney the adcom seems a tad bit spendy. You may want to check http://www.saturdayaudio.com out. Lots of good cheap stuff to be had.

Thanks for the feedback... I was just trying to find out what is a good deal and get a bit of help spotting out the crap. Keep in mind those prices I gave you were in canadian money so if you were talking about them going for 190 to 250 us its more like 262 to 345 cdn. Saturday audio seems to be a good place to get stuff but coming from Chicago or Evanston along with taxes, duties and shipping might put the price to more than what I could get it for locally. I'll keep calling the pawn shops, checking the buy & sell and looking for other good deals. Today I think I'll call some of the high end audio/video shops and see what buying new would cost me. Thanks again for all the imput.
