RTI150 sound quality

I have a pair or RTI150's and was probably not alone when I thought that these speakers lacked something in the bass area at normal listening levels.

Well, I found out what the REAL problem was, and am now VERY happy with these fine speakers. Perhaps this will help someone else.

I was driving these speakers with a Yamaha RX-V750 receiver putting out about 100 WPC. This is no cheapo receiver, but I found that 100 WPC just isn't enough to drive these speakers.

Just added a parasound 350 WPC power amp and WOW what a difference. Even at moderate listening levels the bass response is MUCH better.

I can only guess that my yamaha was clipping at moderate listening levels. Now I can listen to music as loud as I want and have enough bass response to go to 0 db bass boost.

Great speakers and thanks to the polk tech support folks for their "sound" advice.

Aye, the 150's can and do shake the house once they have the power they deserve. Glad you are digging them. I run mine without a sub, as there is no need, even for the deepest bass of demanding Home Theater apps.

And welcome to the forum :D

Yep, this is the same experience that many of us have had with the 150s. Out of the box they're a little dissapointing, but give them some good power and they come to life.

A truly awesome pair of speakers when properly driven...
