Old school 12” woofer Reserve series 3 way

Hey all! Would anyone else be interested in seeing a old school 3 way stand up 12” or 15” woofer. Speaker in the Reserve or Legend series. I am starting to see a trend where this style speaker is coming back. I really love the looks and I’m sure Polk could do a wonderful job with them. I understand there large cabinet can get expensive to build and ship, but this style speaker can sound wonderful. I’m curious to what others think. 🔈👍🏻

Polk never went that route in the past. Even under the brand's current ownership, it is hard to imagine them doing so in the future.

JBL still has what you seek, albeit not inexpensively.

I agree, large active drivers have not been a Polk thing before. The big passive radiators of the 1980s were in lieu of being ported designs but the active drivers were small and fast. But, Polk has been stretching a bit in the last couple years by putting dual 8” drivers in the R700s and dual 10” drivers in the L800s. The goal is still to have relatively narrow cabinets for most speakers which is probably one reason why dual long throw woofers are preferred over a single large one. The L800s are the only exception and that is because of the SDA configuration needing a wider cabinet.

It is also true that some manufacturers have been putting out speakers with an “old school” look with three driver tweeter-midrange-woofer designs. That is definitely a trend.

My first Hi-Fi speakers were 3 way speakers with a 12” woofer. At the time, they were fantastic. However, now I realize that sitting on the floor they were too low, and they were probably too big to put on a stand.

Only 10" woofers (I suppose), but perhaps these Monitor 10 upgrades restomods would appeal to the OP?
