Is The Best of the James Gang, and Jimi Hendrix SACD’s worth while??

Also what about T Rex Electric Warrior on DVD AUDIO??

I dont think the Mastering on the best of James Gang is very good, not sure how much more Fidelity the SACD would offer. If you dont already have Electric Warrior then that DVD A would be worth picking up depending on the price.

"Vintage" (i.e., pre-digital recording era) Best ofs always seem to be,sonically, kind of second-rate to me. I can rationalize that by thinking that it's related to fairly careless re-mastering and/or using relatively high-generation copies of the track tapes when the albums are put together. With very few exceptions, the 1960s and 70s Best ofs that I've owned seem kind of thin/washed-out.

As long as I'm complaining: Those old Best ofs also almost always seem to be missing that one track you (I!) really want -- or the 'biggest hit' of all is on the record, but it's, like, a second-rate live version or something. :#

Most of the music from that era has some inherent tape hiss from my experience. It's just higher rez tape noise mind you.
    🤣😂

I've got one of the Hendrix SACD's it's OK. I've thought about the James gang more than once, I've not been excited enough to oull the trigger

I recently impulse bought a best of BonJovi SACD. I have no idea how it sounds. $30 WTH sure 😃😃

I've read that SACD sounds terrible. Is that true?

Don't know I've not opened it. All my gear is in storage for an undisclosed amount of time.
I figured if I didn't but it, it would be one that shot up to $200 in a short time due to limited production AND I'd hear how flipping great it was made.

Thanks for the let down Gary😜

I don't have any of the mentioned SACDs. Sorry. The Analog production
products I've purchased have been uniformly great.

Discogs tells me that the JH 1st is:
'SACD layer includes the Original Stereo and Mono Mixes
(Stereo only on CD layer)" and worth it to me right there.

Dire Straits 'Brothers in Arms' 20th anniversary edition is a great SACD
to play where you can easily compare SACD 5.1, SACD Stereo, and CD layer.
    (as a fun comparison)

I bopped over to the SHMF to see what people thought of the
OPs SACD question. Um, it seems like no on the James Gang
and the best of a bad situation on AYE...

After reading some more of a Loooooooooooooooooooooong
thread and just jumping to the last pages, it sounds like
the 1st two Hendrix LPs (SACDs) have problems. I think that
was why I just went AAA LP. My Axis is a bit noisier than I hoped.

@txcoastal1 , not sure I've ever listened to the CD layer.
I'll try that next. On now, but a different setup. Interesting
that Kevin Gray would make a misstep...

    Yes I do.
I never opened it or the first DVD-A of the Doors LA woman.
Both took a swim all art work ruined
All my DVD-A went to the pool party. I had about 30 all were pristine.

I had both DVD-A and SACD's of Elton John disc's.(that were made) I always felt that the DVD-A's were a smidge better sounding.
The one draw back with DVD-A's was you couldn't just drop in the tray and hit play. You had to wait to load then go through the menu to pick what you wanted to play
Sampling rate, stereo or multi channel.
Once my gear was not connected to a monitor I stashed away all the DVD-Audio.

You know I thought I would pull them out in 30 years and sell them and live comfortably in my retirement mansion from all those dollars you know like the gamers do with the first run series of some games that could cost multi-thousands of dollars

    LMAO

For sure great well mastered stuff.

Peter Gabriel's SACD shaking the tree is another great disc.
The original PG SACD's are out of bounds in cost. Imo

I bought Duke and Abacab they had both SACD and DVD-AUDIO discs. That day I bought them at Best buy I passed over the Allison Krause live SACD they had marked down to $16.
Jesus I paid way more for it later 🤠
Since that time I've bought most of hers. Hes voice is just intoxicating.

The Genesis disc's was before they came out with the box set of SACD

I got that Allison Krause Live sacd and practically wore it out I listened to it so much and then 5-6 years ago proceeded to lose one of the two discs. Not sure exactly how but I think it was something absurd like keeping it in my truck for several months 😱😩. So i was burned by it being dual layer and playable in my car 🧐. Similar mistakes made with some stones sacd’s on a boat.
